pots that tell stories

Pots That Tell Stories is a project that all Year 6 students take part in. Before creating our own pots, we studied the Hermannsburg Potters, a group of indigenous women who get together and make handmade pots. They are one-of-a-kind, and tell incredible stories about their community. After looking through all the different designs, we started to make our own. Coiling was our first step to creating our earthenware pots, which after each lesson became taller and taller until we were ready to paint them with an underglaze. Many students recreated the story of bushfires, the Great Barrier Reef and Australian history. Stories and unique paintings wrapped around each pot. The next step in the process is creating a 3D sculpture that represents an important part of the story. Finally, we had created an amazing artwork to pass on our stories.

street art bags

Students have studied the role of street art and its place within the established artworld in the 21st Century. Focus in this artwork has been on the creation of ‘stencil’ prints and posters. Using stencil art and graphic design as inspiration, students have created their own surrealist style logos, where the words do not define the pictures and the pictures do not define the words.
